had exactly the same problem with an unused, "factory default" x25-m g2 80g coming along with 02g9 firmware. as the manual states it should be possible to perform the upgrade in ahci mode, so i sticked with ahci during the upgrade resulting in the described behaviour.

1. bios set to ahci

2. upgrade resulting in mentioned error

3. rebooted, set bios to sata (my bios does only support sata, raid and ahci)

4. shutdown pc for 30sec.

5. powered on again

6. upgrade tool telliing me that 02hd is already installed

7. rebootet and set bios to ahci again

so everything seems to work fine. here is some output from hdparm (32bit linux user here), showing trim enabled:

hdparm -I /dev/sda
/dev/sda:ATA device, with non-removable media Model Number: INTEL SSDSA2M080G2GC Serial Number: CVPO941301DP080BGN Firmware Revision: 2CV102HD Transport: Serial, ATA8-AST, SATA 1.0a, SATA II Extensions, SATA Rev 2.5, SATA Rev 2.6Standards: Used: ATA/ATAPI-7 T13 1532D revision 1 Supported: 7 6 5 4 Configuration: Logical max current cylinders 16383 16383 heads 16 16 sectors/track 63 63 -- CHS current addressable sectors: 16514064 LBA user addressable sectors: 156301488 LBA48 user addressable sectors: 156301488 Logical Sector size: 512 bytes Physical Sector size: 512 bytes device size with M = 1024*1024: 76319 MBytes device size with M = 1000*1000: 80026 MBytes (80 GB) cache/buffer size = unknown Nominal Media Rotation Rate: Solid State DeviceCapabilities: LBA, IORDY(can be disabled) Queue depth: 32 Standby timer values: spec'd by Standard, no device specific minimum R/W multiple sector transfer: Max = 16 Current = 16 DMA: mdma0 mdma1 mdma2 udma0 udma1 udma2 udma3 udma4 udma5 *udma6 Cycle time: min=120ns recommended=120ns PIO: pio0 pio1 pio2 pio3 pio4 Cycle time: no flow control=120ns IORDY flow control=120nsCommands/features: Enabled Supported: * SMART feature set Security Mode feature set * Power Management feature set * Write cache * Look-ahead * Host Protected Area feature set * WRITE_BUFFER command * READ_BUFFER command * NOP cmd * DOWNLOAD_MICROCODE SET_MAX security extension * 48-bit Address feature set * Device Configuration Overlay feature set * Mandatory FLUSH_CACHE * FLUSH_CACHE_EXT * SMART error logging * SMART self-test * General Purpose Logging feature set * WRITE_{DMA|MULTIPLE}_FUA_EXT * 64-bit World wide name * IDLE_IMMEDIATE with UNLOAD * WRITE_UNCORRECTABLE_EXT command * {READ,WRITE}_DMA_EXT_GPL commands * Segmented DOWNLOAD_MICROCODE * Gen1 signaling speed (1.5Gb/s) * Gen2 signaling speed (3.0Gb/s) * Native Command Queueing (NCQ) * Phy event counters Device-initiated interface power management * Software settings preservation * Data Set Management TRIM supported * Deterministic read ZEROs after TRIMSecurity: Master password revision code = 65297 supported not enabled not locked frozen not expired: security count supported: enhanced erase 2min for SECURITY ERASE UNIT. 2min for ENHANCED SECURITY ERASE UNIT.Logical Unit WWN Device Identifier: 50015179590b35f1 NAA : 5 IEEE OUI : 001517 Unique ID : 9590b35f1Checksum: correct

hdparm -Tt /dev/sda
/dev/sda: Timing cached reads: 1304 MB in 2.00 seconds = 651.91 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 464 MB in 3.00 seconds = 154.63 MB/sec

hdparm -Tt --direct /dev/sda
/dev/sda: Timing O_DIRECT cached reads: 474 MB in 2.01 seconds = 236.35 MB/sec Timing O_DIRECT disk reads: 696 MB in 3.01 seconds = 231.35 MB/sec

seems fine to me. what do you think?

I tried to update the FW and it failed, saying I should boot up in legacy IDE mode (I'm using ahci). I rebooted in IDE mode, and then when it came to updating the firmware, it said the firmware was already updated. Anyone else have this problem?

I had exactly the same issue.

Both the firmware update tool and speedfan are reporting the correct firmware version, but I'm not convinced that the actual firmware on the drive corresponds to the version number that is being reported. I didn't see anything during the supposed update process that suggests it actually occured.

I can't verify the correct firmware by testing trim, since I'm running in RAID mode through bios, and the SSD toolbox hasn't been re-released.

I have emailed intel support - see what they say.

This happened to me as well. I have a brand new 160g and updated through AHCI and got the update didn't complete, went back a 2nd time (in IDE) and said it couldn't update cause it had the latest firmware. I don't think I'll be worrying about it. Speeds seems right and when I looked at CrystalDiskInfo where all the SMART info is, TRIM is not greyed out so that means it's good. Maybe another way to see is if you have the INTEL SSD Toolbox and see if it will run.

If diagnostics are showing the correct firmware, write speeds are up on 160GB models, and TRIM is working (if updating from a version older than 02HA) then it looks like the update was indeed successful. Sounds like the updater may be incorrectly reporting a failed upgrade? Did you see any activity indicating a firmware flash in progress? Going to update two drives tonight. One from 02HA and a new drive which presumably will have an older firmware. Last time the update worked in AHCI mode but be interesting to see if I run into the same problem.

When I got back to Windows (v7 x64) it tried to install new drivers,
got a blue screen and now everytime I go back to Windows the
performance is really bad

Did you have to run the updater in a different controller mode from that which you normally use and forget to switch back before booting into Windows? The new driver installation suggests this might be the case and a BSOD is not unusual in these circumstances. Same goes from the performance hit. Not clear in your post but sounds like perhaps you've gone from using AHCI to IDE in Windows?

I also have this problem.

I still have the Intel SSD Toolbox installed so I ran that. It also reports the firmware as being 2CV102HD as does Crystal Disk Info.

When I tried to run the SSD management tools it reports the drive status as passed and as ready for use. When I run it though it fails saying "Error creating Intel Optimizer SSD files on the selected drive".

I'll try to figure out what's wrong tonight.

I have a G1, not a G2, but I believe the process is the same regardless.

On my system, the CD drivers included in their ISOs do not work in AHCI mode, and it doesn't detect my drive as being an Intel SSD in IDE mode.

The workaround I did was to create a bootable SD Card and put the .exe for the flasher on there. Then booted to the SD Card with BIOS set to AHCI mode and flashed. I also conveniently have HDDERASE.EXE on the same card, although that requires IDE mode.

I recommend this utility for making a bootable flash card:

http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=197 http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=197

(have to check "Create DOS Startup Disk" and specify the location you unzipped the linked win98 dos system files)

Here's benchy for my G2 160gig. This was a brand new 02G9 firmware updated to 02HD (but with the issue stated eariler). No windows 7 installed before updating. Updated using ACHI (got the not complete redo with IDE which I did, but said it was already updated) and installed windows 7 ult 64bit using ACHI. I'm happy with it. I say it works since trim is not greyed out. Also writes speeds were supposedly only max 80mb with 02G9 firmware. I'm getting a max of 112mb with only 26gigs used with 02HD firmware.

Shuttle xpc p35pro

Processor q6600

Ram 8 gigs

Harddrive: Intel SSD 160g2 (Main), 2x Samsung HD103SJ 1TB
