Just got off the phone with Intel SSD Tech support. They agree it must be the drive, not my system and agree I should just replace it via RAM from the reseller (mwave.com) who are sending me a replacement as a cross shipment.

Just got my second X25-M and am surprised to see this sample only reads at 123 MB/s (model SSDSA2M080G2GN, firmware 2CV102G9). Writes are normal at ~ 70 MB/s. System is 2008 Mac Pro, 10.6.2. My first sample reads at >250 MB/s in the same system so I'm assuming the issue is with the X25-M, not the system.

Any advice?

Thanks!

Apple limits the SATA to 1.5GHz in the MacBook Pro instead of 3.0GHz, which would limit you to about that 123MB/s. (Not sure about 2008 Mac Pro), see here: http://www.anandtech.com/mac/showdoc.aspx?i=3672&p=5 http://www.anandtech.com/mac/showdoc.aspx?i=3672&p=5

Are your 2 drives on SATA ports connected to the same controller, or is one on an NVidia controller and one on a Marvell or something? Maybe Apple limited some controllers and not others?

Thanks for your reply. My system is a Mac Pro tower with 4 x 3.0 GB/s internal SATA II ports.

I did swap the two X25-Ms into the drive bay and tested read speeds to get the 123 MB/s and >250 MB/s results.

OHH Damn!! - I ordered a X25-M G2 from mwave just last night for my brand new iMac 27" which is definitely SATA II and running at 3Gb/s as compared to any other macs. It'll totally suck if there's a problem with the drive an running at half the speeds after it's installed. We all know that the installation of a HDD/SSD in an iMac is quite cumbersome.

I have an old MacBookPro 2,2 (late 2006). I've installed my new G2 160GB. Here is my xbench result.
