The ASMedia 1061 SATA 6Gb/s chipset is now being used by some mother board manufactures instead of the Marvell 91xx chipsets, for additional SATA 6Gb/s ports. This ASMedia chipset can also be found on add-on SATA cards.

I recently started using a Z77 mother board that includes the ASMedia 1061 chipset. I was pleased to find that the Intel SSD Toolbox recognized an Intel SSD when connected to this chipset. All of the standard Toolbox functions worked fine with this chipset, although I did not try a secure erase.

I must say that I used the Windows 7 msahci driver with the '1061 at the moment, and will try the ASMedia driver next.
